Despite a serious injury, David Pavlak is nearing completion on a huge project for the Wellington Veterinary Clinic.
Last month Pavlak fell off a stepladder and broke his right wrist – his painting hand. At the time of the injury, the artist was two-thirds the way through a series of paintings for the clinic. Always the dedicated artist, he has continued working on the paintings and completed the project – with his left hand.
“It’s a lot easier to do than I thought,” said Pavlak about using his left hand. “I am finishing up this large commission with my left hand, and so far it's coming along great,” he added. “I surprised myself with the results.”
Pavlak is scheduled to undergo surgery on his hand later this month. He will have a plate inserted because the radius will not stay in its proper place. The prognosis for the surgery is good. The doctors say Pavlak may have some limited mobility. However, since the surgery is being performed on his dominant hand, the specialists think it's best for Pavlak to return to being a right-handed artist. (back to news main page)
